US Officials Tell CNN: FBI May Have Proof Of Collusion Between Trump Campaign and Russia

US officials told CNN that FBI counterintelligence investigators suspect coordination may have taken place between President Donald Trump’s associates and Russian operatives.

Last July, Russian intelligence agencies started orchestrating the release of hacked e-mails stolen from the Democratic National Committee and affiliated organizations, along with e-mail accounts belonging to Clinton campaign officials.

On Monday, FBI Director James Comey made the bombshell announcement that the FBI is pursuing a criminal investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, citing, “a credible allegation of wrongdoing or reasonable basis to believe an American may be acting as an agent of a foreign power.”  The FBI has been looking into four former Trump associates — Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Carter Page.

“People connected to the campaign were in contact and it appeared they were giving the thumbs up to release information when it was ready,” a law enforcement official, with the information in hand, told CNN.

Though officials cautioned that the investigation is ongoing and the information is not conclusive, the FBI is reviewing human intelligence, travel and phone records and reports of in-person meetings.  Suspicions have peaked among counterintelligence investigators that the release of hacked e-mails, intended to damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign, by Russian operatives, may have been coordinated with the Trump campaign.

Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, told Chuck Todd on Wednesday that there is more than circumstantial evidence of collusion.

The Steele dossier, compiled by a British intelligence official, which remains largely unverified, too suggested coordination between Trump campaign associates and Russian operatives.  US officials said their information was not drawn from the dossier.

We may be ever advancing towards something colossal.  Treason is not too big a word.
